Record 20 of 239: First | Previous | Next | Last

Of all the battles to capture soccer s greatest prize, the World Cup, one match stands supreme as an electrifying encounter that epitomises all the passion and rivalry of the beautiful game . The year was 1966. England faced a formidable team from West Germany. In a spine-tingling finale to an unforgettable tournament, England won by a margin of four goals to two after extra time. On the 30th of July 1966, flanked by the celebrated Twin Towers, the two teams awaited the beginning of the game with anticipation. Each squad comprised a steadfast goalkeeper and ten gifted outfield players. Each was ably guided by an exceptional coach and his assistant. Each had only one dream, one desire: to claim the beautiful Jules Rimet World Cup Trophy. It is this scene that is captured in the 1966 World Cup Final Chess Set. (Board not Included)
